Cel - To contribute information on requirements and architectures of business CPNs to other RACE activities. - To define CPN solutions appropriate to the achievement of a very wide European consensus on standards and the early introduction of IBC. - To validate preferred solution(s) and specifications produced in RACE I, by implementing critical sub-systems, and integrate these in a demonstrator. - To enhance the Business CPN system concept. - To contribute new ideas on access interfaces, CPN architectures and evolutionary scenarios. Customer premises network (CPN) requirements were first identified for business applications, particularly concerning the harmonisation of the 2 main networks for telecommunications and data communication, as a basis for a flexible cost effective system. A demonstrator was then specified both for the telecommunications oriented part and for the data communications oriented part. The required technology was specified and acquired, enabling the implementation of critical subsystems to be integrated in one demonstrator. Finally, the demonstrator will be made available for verification by interconnection with demonstrators produced by other research and development advanced communications technologies in Europe (RACE) projects. Telecommunications-oriented requirements for the business CPN have been specified (CPN requirement specification). The choices for system architecture and technologies have been described. A new flexible system architecture has been described in the report on the functional structure of local area network/metropolitan area network (LAN/MAN) oriented building blocks for business CPN. The final specifications of all interface/transmission related key elements (KE) have been issued. Most of the defined key elements have been delivered while synchronous transfer mode (STM) part related KE are in progress. The building blocks of the feasibility model (FM) are specified, built and almost tested.
