Objectif Deep water oil production assessment. The production facilities available had essentially been designed for working oilfields lying below the continental shelves. Their extrapolation for use in zones covered by a depth of water from 200/300 to 1,000 metres was impossible, except for undersea wellheads, the industrial use of which was only in its infancy. Analysis in 1974 of the status and medium-term evolution of off-shore techniques, together with an examination of the many conceivable systems for harnessing oilfields in deep waters, guided the project towards the study of the main components common to the most realistic systems, based on maintaining the greatest possible proportion of installations on the surface.
