Objective The main targets of underwater oil storage research project are described as follows : - to obtain and/or transfer the basic methods and techniques to the design of large offshore structures made of steel or of reinforced concrete. - to develop the design of a 300 m water depth underwater oil storage tank. The design of the underwater oil storage tank derives from the integrated solution of different problems regarding : Storage process system, structure configuration, design methods, installation procedures, construction methods, operative life and maintenance procedures. Different design aspects have been analysed in detail so that computer procedures, theoretical studies, model tests and field tests have been carried out.
