Objetivo Seismic methods are worldwide the most sophisticated tools in geophysicals exploration of mineral resources. By these methods, the stratigraphy of the subsurface is discovered commonly by use of the material specific travel times of the reflected seismic waves. It is will known, that seismic waves are additionally affected in their amplitudes and frequencies by rock materials. The application of the so-called adsorption or attenuation of seismic waves (ASW) in praxis as key to rock and pore fluid characterization is still not realized because of non available interpretation tools. Fundamentals for the analysis and interpretation of seismograms on absorption phenomena were investigated in a previous phase, this new project concerns with the applicability of absorption evaluation of seismic data in practical exploration.Main results are :- A joint experiment on the applicabiliy of the different methods to evaluate the absorption of seismic waves is completed.- The application of the different methods on seismic field data ( VSP and reflection seismic) brought up important experiences in the ASW-evaluation of real data.- The method "Analytical Signal" developed by Prof. Engelhard, Tu Braunschweig, in the foregoing ASW-project has been completed. It has been tested as a routine in a processing software on a broad range of field data.- The different ASW-mechanisms have been investigated in a extensive laboratory program on cores from outcrops and wellbores- In connection with petrophysical investigations different theories are evaluated to describe the interelation between petrophysical and seismic parameters. The results are actually under final interpretation. As final synthesis of the project results a sophisticating overview on the applicability of the absorption of seismic waves in HC-exploration is in preparation. The project is concepted as joint venture of research institutes and 8companies of the oil and gas industry. The institues are concerned with the experimental and theoretical work. The companies are contributing the geological and seismic data of actual reservoirs as well as their experience in practical operation.Main goal of this project is to evaluate the applicability of seismic attenuation methods in field exploration on oil and natural gas. This general purpose includes a number of different objectives and innovations :1. Comparison of the different theoretical methods for the interpretation of field seismograms2. Installation of the best methods into existing interpretation software for field application3. Full analysis of data at exemplary test reservoirs in connection with all the available geologic data of the fields4. Correlation of ASW with other seismic-, log- and core-data respectively5. Synthesis of all results to a working schedule for practical use in the industryThe general intention is to contibute to a quick introduction of ASW-methods into field exploration.
