DESIGN OF ACQUISITION PARAMETERS TO SOLVE OPAQUE SEISMIC ZONES

Cel

The aim of this project is to study the viability of a general method to design the parameters of acquisition, capable of solving the seismic zones containing formations which are opaque when the conventional methods are used (such as Olistostrome and Salt -diapirs). The method is based on the numerical simulation of the travelling of the seismic waves through a physical-mathematical model of the mentioned formations.
Zones to study have been selected. Compilation of data is finished. Analysis of data is finished. Geological model has been generated. Mathematical model has been generated. Study of the available software has been accomplished. A finite element modelling package has been developed. A method to define layers by statistical properties is under development.
The development of the project is divided in four stages :
STAGE 1. : It includes the gathering, selection and analysis of the available information.
It is subdivided into three parts :
STAGE 1. 1. : Selection of two areas containing a different type of opaque formation each one. That is :
a) Olistostrome
b) Salt-tectonics.
STAGE 1. 2 : Gathering of all the seismic and geological information available.
a) Seismic lines
b) Well-logs
c) Surface geology
STAGE 1. 3. : Analysis of the available information.
STAGE 2. : Build up of reliable geological models representing as well as possible the structure of the studied formations.
STAGES 3/4 : These two stages are so closely related that it is difficult to consider them separately. On the one hand, the mathematical model should fit into the geological model. On the other hand, it should be simple enough to be handled with the existing methods for equation resolution.
These stages are subdivided into the following parts :
STAGES 3.1/4. 1. : Build up of the mathematical model for the formation being studied and selection of the most suitable method for wave-equation resolution among the existing methods such as ray tracing, Kirchoff integral, Fourier discretization method, Finite Differences, Finite Elements.
STAGE 4. 2. : Study of the available software for the solution chosen in 3.1.
STAGE 4. 3. : Study of the viability of the development of a transmision
simulator for the travelling of the seismic waves through the model built up in 3. 1, using the method chosen in stage 4. 1.
