DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED TECHNIQUES AND INTERACTIVE MATHEMATICAL MODELS TO OPTIMIZE AQUIFERS PERFORMANCE AND FLUID INJECTION

Objectif

The objective of the project is to develop a 3D Interactive Mathematical Model for use in continuous optimization of aquifers performance for full scale water injection projects in oil reservoirs.
The project searches technological issues and new procedures in order to rationalize the full utilization of aquifer potentialities in waterflood operations aiming at a better control of fluids movement and displacement.
Correct aquifer's modelling must be supported by a proper geological model. Minimum data concerning aquifers physical properties is essential as well as routine observation files of water production and water levels. This is quite important for the "history match" and model's "calibration".
Proper predictions depend on a correct "model calibration" performed during the history match.
The conception and testing of the Interactive Mathematical Model for simulation of an aquifer system has been performed incorporating specific routines regarding Well Inflow Performance, Cross-Flow, Well Equipment and Well Location Selection ansd Graphics Displays and Prints.
An integrated package was developed, able to run in microcomputer environment.
A separated program was prepared to help the user to design the grid that must cover the area under study.
All the work and case studies were conducted having in mind water injection in the oil industry. Anyway the prototype can be used in any underground water project management.
The main objectives of the project were achieved. The improvements introduced in the simulation procedures and their presentation in a whole package renders the task of the users much easier.
Project was split into three phases. Phase I encompassed the screen, review and assembling of the basic data followed by Data Base Organization, conception of the interactive mathematical model and organisation of the files for the well equipment selection. Phase II encompassed the incorporation of several routines regarding aquifer description procedures of several routines regarding aquifer description procedures, Well Inflow Performance, Cross Flow and inter-Unit Communication, Automatic Well Equipment Selection and Graphics Package.
Phase III included some improvements regarding aquifers performance optimization, the integration of different software modules in a whole package able to run in microcomputers environment and testing for several cases.
