ACQUISITION METHOD FOR 3D SEISMIC SURVEYS WITH A PSEUDO-CASUAL DISTRIBUTION OF RECEIVERS AND SOURCES IN POPULATED AREAS

Cel

The principal aim of the project consists of the study and carrying out of a 3d seismic survey operatively achievable in areas of difficult access, and the promotion of an appreciable reduction in exploration expenses. Indeed, it it's true that 3d seismic can yield important results in hydrocarbon exploration, it's also true that normally employed techniques, which presuppose regularly spread layouts, heavily limit its carrying out in areas either highly urbanized or characterized by critical environmental conditions.
In order to overcome this inconvenience an acquisition technique, based on a pseudo-casual distribution of receivers and sources, is evaluated.
Of course, besides the alternative acquisition scheme, the project provides for the preparation of an opportune sequence of processing and interpretation of the collected data.
The study and application of the described project have allowed the achievement of the following results, which are considered fundamental in hydrocarbon exploration conducted in uninvestigated areas :
- perfecting the projecting criteria, on a mathematical-statistical base, so as to guarantee maximum reliability of the final result and easy implementation;
- definition of different practcal realizations and evaluation of their limits with respect to the areas and equipments available;
- definition of the basic configuration and specifications of a recording system to meet the application requirements of this type of survey;
- improvement of the data processing software for the random grouping envisages in the acquisition phase.
This software can be utilized or extended to large scale so that the methodology can be tested also in other surveys;
- definition of standards for the data classification in order to allow a more flexible exchange of data among geophysical and explorationcompanies.
The realization of the project will be divided in four fundamental phases.
- First phase.
It includes the feasibility study, the planning and the operative choosings.
Definition of a new methodology which, basing itself on the scouting data and on the geological features of the targets, will allow the evaluation of the best distribution of sources and receivers.
Feasibility study, based on the already existing technology, aimed at the individuation of the instrumentation needed to optimize the application of the new methodology.
Once defined the theoretical aspects, we'll proceed to their sperimentation beginning with a detailed scouting of the choosen area first and then elaborating the survey project.
- Second phase : acquisition of data .
We proceeded to the finalization of the project, in agreement with the sub-contractor, starting off with the actual acquisition.
- Third phase : data processing. Specification of the best processing seauence, taking into account the extra-difficulties introduced by the random distribution.
- Fourth phase : interpretation and evaluation of data.
The last phase includes the interpretation of the obtained data and the verification of results to be pursued zith the aid of modeling .
