COMPUTERIZED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR MOBILE DRILLING RIGS

Cel

The aim of the project is to develop an integrated modular computer concept comprising of supervision, control, planning and follow-up and reporting on
- Drilling operations
- Drilling programme status and planning
- Completion operations
- Logistics
- Resources (equipment, materials, labour force)
- Safety systems
- Ballast system
The virtue of the COMMAND system is the integration of planning, supervision and reporting functions. In short this means that data entered into or derived by the planning system are directly accessible by the supervision system is to start up.
PLANNING
A plan is composed of a number of tactical activities in series. The activities can either be selected from the standard list of activities. Under each of these and more tactical actvities a number of process actvities belong.
The process activities are defined in such detail that all parameters and values for supervision are included.
A plan also makes provision for description and reservation of tools, bulkware and consumerables envisaged for each activity.
The total duration and cost of a planned drilling operation can be calculated on the basis of the durations and costs of the activities foreseen.
SUPERVISION
During the drilling operation the COMMAND system will collect and process data from sensors installed on the rig. The offshore COMMAND system is designed to complement the existing installations on the rig. The data will be used for reporting and will be presented to the operators on high resolution displays in real time.
A number of stsandard pictures are available to the operators. Special designed pictures displaying any selection of data and customer defined graphics can be implemented.
The analog data are acquired, filtered and sent to the data base by the Data Acquisition Unit (DAU). The values are then compared to the relevant limits and used for subsequent calculations. An event is detected if a value trespasses a limit.
Events can be presented to the operator as an alarm and will be logged in the event report.
During the drilling operation, the desire to mmodify the plan can arise. In that case, the operator can switch the COMMAND system into the planning mode and modify the plan.
The COMMAND system can print pre defined reports presenting any data from the data base. The report layout can be designed to suit any need. Reporting is provoked either manually, periodically or automatically as a consequence of events.
The total system comprises the following basic modules with possibilities for future extensions.
- An operations database
- Modular multiprocessor in local network
- Modular and flexible process interface to sensors
- Unified man machine interface
- Application software
This project is divided into 5 phases consisting of
* PHASE 1 - System Design Specifications
In this part of the project the overall requirements to the system is defined.
*PHASE 2 - System Development
In this part of the project the data structure, the data base system and the system commands are developed and implemented.
PHASE 3 - Data Acquisition and Transmission
This part of the project includes selection/development of hardware.
PHASE 4 - Application Software
The development of application programmes and menus alerting procedures etc. are included. It should further be possible for the users to define their own applications.
PHASE 5 - Implementation and Testing
This part of the project includes installation for testing and final development.
