DESIGN CONSTRUCTION AND FIELD TESTING OF A SURFACE CONTROLLED SUB-SURFACE SAFETY VALVE SYSTEM FOR GAS AND OIL WELLS

Objectif

Development of a deepset surface controlled subsurface safety valve system which should lead to improve safety in the production of hydrocarbons through protection of the environment and safeguarding investment.
The two safety valve systems, which are undergoing field testing in gas producing wells, can be set at any depth in the well and in this respect have a distinct advantage over the more conventional design of hydraulically operated subsurface safety valves.
The electric solenoid safety valve has been undergoing field testing since June 1982 and has proven to be a very reliable system.
The annulus pressure operated safety valve is somewhat complex in design and difficult to reliably control. But testing is continuing.
Following alternative system studies three were selected for further development. However only two of these, the annulus pressure operated safety valve and the electricsolenoid operated safety valve, have been constructed. Field testing of these two systems is continuing.
