DEVELOPMENT OF A MONITORING SYSTEM FOR A REMOTE SUBSEA OIL WELL HEAD

Objectif

Development of a monitoring system for remote subsea oil wellheads.
The work is divided into the following phases:
Phase 1: sensor development and testing
Phase 2: total system development and operational testing.
Work commenced March 1980 and competitive bids were obtained for phase 1 of the project. A contract was awarded to TRW Ferranti Subsea Ltd, to cover development of:
1) valve position sensor
2) through flowline train sensor
3) pressure transducer
4) temperature transducer
The development and testing of sensors has been successful.
As part of the project, a survey was carried out by Westcott and Butt (Imperial College, University of London), where the development of a new standard for subsea interfacing is proposed.
The project involves the development of a system for monitoring multi-plexing and transmitting data, derived from a number of sensors, mounted on a subsea production wellhead, where diver intervention is not possible.
