RATIONAL UTILIZATION OF ELECTRIC POWER IN THE PROCESS OF ZINC ELECTROLYTIC PRODUCTION

Objective

To decrease energy costs by improving automatization.
It is expected that a systematic and continuous control of several parameters during the process could improve efficiency by 30% and thus save 100 KWH of electricity/ton of winc. control of the electrolytic solution content (metallic ions, H2S04, ZN) and temperature, of the current intensity, automatization of the exhaust solution cooling system and of the zinc weighing system are foreseen. Furthermore, the new process allows the evaluation of the efficiency at intervals of 4-6 hours (24-28H at present).

The winc production, by electrolysis, is obtained by means of high electric power consumption (3200 KWH/ton) due both to the process used and to the efficiency achieved operating. This project is aimed at demonstrating the rational use of energy by way of automatic control of the process parameters using suitable instrumentation. The instruments will be connected directly with the process computer, which elaborates the data coming from the plant. Thereby of the determing the operating parameters electrolyses and allowing an increase in the efficiency and a decrease in consumption estimated at 102. 5 kWh/ton of produced winc. The innovation of the process consists of the identification and control of the parameters of primary importance, which up to now have been evaluated empirically.
The measurement of the process data is carried out at intervals of 4-6 hours compared wit6h the present 24-28 hours.
The introduced process shall allow an energy saving of:
8. 500. 000kWh/year
102. 5 kWh/ton of zinc kHWh
Measurements unit H. V. electric kHWh
This saving is estimated on the average electricity consumption of the plant where the project will be installed.
