DATA TRANSMISSION WITHOUT CABLE FOR PRODUCING WELLS

Obiettivo

This project concerns the study and realization of an acquisition unit for bottom well measurements having only short time lag between the measurements and the transmission of the data by a cableless system. The knowledge of the pressure and temperature at the bottom of producing wells is fundamental for a better appreciation of the pay zone and optimization of production.
Disadvantages of actual systems are related to the problem encountered by cable transmission or the lag between data acquisition and interpretation.
The proposed system ensures data transmission by using small elements, carried up by the fluid and in which the desired information is stored.
These memories are recovered at the surface and read by an appropriate computer.
This apparatus aims at eliminating the need of cables as well as reducing costs by utilising well-know gas-lift technology.
The different modules of the equipment have been developped
. Bottom equipment : electronic prototype of the management system have been achieved.
Low consumption CHOS components have been used offering a maximum consumption of 2,50 mA.
This electronics enables :
- Data acquisition of the measured parameters (temperature, pressure of bore hole) in the annex memory of the CPU
- The interface between the CPU data storage and emitting module to the ejectable memory chip
- The management of the memory ejection
- Real calendar time storage with the data
- Maximum temperature environmment : 160 deg. C.
- Maximum pressure environment : 500 bars.
- Software enables the CPU ROM programmation with the number of acquisition
to be made, the frequency of ejection (every hours, every days,
every week,...).
- Memory chips has several kilo-octets of memory offering more than 1 month
12 bits data storage autonomy on one chip.
- Ejection mechanics have been studied and designed.
- Surface reading electronics and mechanics have been completed.
- The operating prototype has been stopped because of the dimensions of the
probes available today
The project is to be studied in several parts :
- Bottom unit : the acquisition unit is wireline set in a side pocket mandrel installed at the bottom of the production tubing (traditional operation for gas-lift valves).
It includes :
* Pressure and temperature sensors
* Microprocessor based electronics
* Data storage memories and ejection module
* Power supply
- Surface unit : The recovery of the memories when they reach the surface is
made by a memory trap set on the well head prior to the choke.
It does not need to close the well.
- Data read out unit : Data storage memories are read on the surface by means
of an appropiate interface and dedicated soft on a portable computer, data
being stored on a magnetic support as well as printed.
