PRODUCTION IN THE ARCTIC SEAS

Objetivo

The purpose of the project is to study the protection of the production facilities in arctic zones from scouring by icebergs.
Al this work has enabled the feasibility of the seasonal production scheme adapted to be demonstrated, though without going beyong this, since no actual application was presently available for it.
This scheme is based on the subsea installations that are set down into excavations made in the sea floor, protecting from scour by the icebergs. They are interconnected by flexible lines which would not endanger the installations if they were accidentally torn away by an iceberg. Production control and its evacuation by tankers is ensured from a dynamically positioned floating cylinder production platform equipped with devices preventing it from being carried along by the pack ice on the surface.
The activities have been directed towards the key technical factors namely :

. The presence of very hard moranic boulders is an obstacle to drilling the
Wells. A seismic exploration campain to detect the zones of boulders at present below the sea bed was made on several sites in sea of labrador,

Though without enabling a reliable method of detection to be determinated.
. An experimental excavation in a depth of 150 metres of water was made on the hermine site of britany. This 1,000m3 excavation was made in 20 hours from
The "duplus" ship under average conditions of weather. It was completed by a shore test in a soil containing boulders, using the same excavator bin.

. The production installations are based on using "insert tree" production Equipment buried to a depth of over 15 metres beneath the sea floor. The Remote-handling control and flowline connection devices are mounted above The well inside a large diameter insert, itself located over 5 metres below the surface of the sea bed. An engineering file was established.

. Lastly, the dynamically positioned cyclindrical production platform, known as The "dypospar" was studied. This study, which has received the approval of The certification authorities, also includes study of the production riser.
