Obiettivo Further to the developments of the oil industry at sea, and in particular the north sea, the problem of transferring personnel onto the platforms is becoming a more definite and demanding problem. The current methods are not entirely satisfactory for security reasons (basket) and costly (helicopter). Acb therefore decided to study, construct and make operational a personnel transfer unit. This unit, which is complementary to offshore transportation by boat to platforms, consists of a rigid basket handled by the cranes available on the platform.Due to various mechanical incidents during the prototype workshop tests, acb decided to stop the project in its original concept, as its reliability was insufficient. The proposed unit is made up a cabin comprising two mechanical units. With two winch reels. The superior reel is used for the cable which supports the cabin, the extremity of this cable being attached to the crane hook. The inferior reel is used for the rope which is attached to the deck of the boat permitting the guiding of the cabin during transfer manoeuvres. Each of these reels is capable, when the other is locked with a dog, of compensating the heaving motion of the boat.
