SELF INSTALLING SUBSEA STORAGE SYSTEM

Objetivo

Development of a new system for subsea storage of oil.
The project enabled the technical and economic validity of the concept to be proved. All phases of sissac life have been considered in the project: construction, launching, tow-out, installation and 20 years' exploitation. Particular attention has been given to the most critical and unclassical aspects of the project, i. e. The installation procedure, the foundation design and equipment in the tank and in the column.
The system proved its economic interest for remote oil fields, where neither pipelines nor big storage structures are viable.
The system combines an underwater concrete storage tank with the widely used articulated loading column. The system is adapted to water depths from 120 to 220 m and to storage capacities from 400 ,000 bls to 750,000 bls and installation in such locations as the north sea.
- the storage tank is built in concrete and the column in steel.
- the sissac provides the column transportation to the site using the concrete tank as a barge.
- the sissac is installed by filling tank cells and column compartments in a given sequence.
