DEVELOPMENT OF MEASUREMENT SYSTEM TO OPTIMIZE COMPUTER PROGRAMMES AND TO MONITOR DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF OFFSHORE PLATFORMS

Ziel

The aim of the project has been to set up a procedure and equipment to measure the dynamic characteristics of offshore structures with two objectives in view:
- to optimize theoretical models of the structure and to associate realistic damping values
- to detect possible cracks on these bases.
At the present stage, the project has resulted in two specific techniques:
- model analysis: this technique did not really give the answer to the initial hopes
- vibrodetection: the purpose of which is to detect and localise significant cracks on an offshore jacket. Many offshore tests - as in the Arabian GULF in 1982 - proved the reliability of this technique.
In the first stage, computation programmes were chosen and numeric results obtained. A model size platform was built, on which verification of a theoretical model was provided (before and after the model was damaged). Several types of exitation systems were studied and finally an operational equipment was developed (local and global exciter, accelerometric box, acquisition unit). During the second stage, offshore tests were carried out in real conditions in order to set up the equipment, to define a measuring and interpretation procedure and to find out the limits of the crack detection.
