DEMONSTRATION OF AN ADVANCED COST-EFFECTIVE 60 KW WIND TURBINE FOR ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION

Objectif

The aim of the project is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasiblity of an innovative and advanced wind turbine concept. The innovative items of the machine are : integrated planetary gearbox; new induction generator; flexible rotor blades, soft coupling to the grid and cost effective design. The machine will be erected at the PENs wind park.

The machine will be built by Berewoud Energie BV and is a 60 m downwind wind turbine, 2 bladed, with 16.4 m flexbeam rotor with hydraulic pitch control. The windvang 160.60 RWT wind turbine has an integrated, highly efficient planetary gearbox and is hydraulically damped free yawing. The electric system is specially designed to allow soft coupling to the grid. The asynchronous generator is based on a soft lattice tower. It is worthwhile to note that the wind nacelle's is without cover in order to minimize shadow effects on the blades and reduce the cost of the machine. The blades are very light and are connected to the hub by a flexible beam. The cut-in windspeed is 4 m/s, the cut-out 23 m/s and the rated power is reached at 12 m/s. The estimated cost of the wind turbine is about 215.000 HFL. The energy yield for sites with 6.5 m/s has been estimated to 115 MWh. The project shows a payback time of about 10 years but future installations may well show a payback of 5 years.
