Objective Transformation of the HVAC plant of an existing 80-bed hotel by means of an absorption electric heat pump associated with an energy roof. As compared with a traditional plant, a (primary energy) saving of 8 TOE/year is expected and payback time should not exceed 10 years. The hotel is working during the tourist season only, i.e. from May until mid-October.Unpredicted structural defects obliged the contractor to strenghten the whole building with complex works of opening walls and inserting concrete superstructure. Although the municipality forbid all building works during the tourist season the roof (330 m2) has been erected according to a modified design : this is now a whole shed roof with a useful area 200 m2 larger than initially designed.All the technical equipment was installed before end of march 1989 : chilled water storage tank of 4000 liters, sanitary water preheating tank of 2000 liters.The first running in tests gave satisfactory results both for data logging system and for the plant as a whole.The results of measurement campaigns planned for winter 89/90 and 90/91 are not available.A 40 kW-absorption heat pump connected with a 2 m3 cold storage and a 100 m2 solar roof (metallic tiles) provides the cooling of the restaurant (100 m2) and domestic hot water for the kitchen and rooms (requirements = 10 m3 of domestic hot water at 50 deg. C.).The roof is used either as a cold source for the heat pump or as a means of pre-heating of the domestic hot water.The project includes 4 phases :1.
