Objectif To show the technical and economical interest for tele-monitoring of forty remote, medium size (500 to 2000 Wp) PV systems. The users are very satisfied. Electricity availability is 95%. The measurements via satellite were very reliable and gave useful information on the consumption and on incidents. The incidents can be classified into 5 categories, according to which the necessary actions are taken. The measurements continue on 8 sites.Despite of some orders the commercialisation of the satellite transmittance systems proves to be difficult (too expensive, for the small market.)The following energy costs are estimated:Photovoltaic system (for one system) 5 ECU/kWhPhotovoltaic system (for another system) 4.3 ECU/kWhAverage (for the whole project) around 6 ECU/kWh.More than forty remote houses or mountain huts in the french and spanish Pyrenees are equipped with PV systems with powers between 160 and 1460 Wp.17 sites lie in France with a total installed power of 14.2 kWp and 28 in Spain, with a total installed power of 14.9 kWp. (760 Wp average). The most innovative feature of this system is the daily transmission of the following integrated monitoring data, once per day via direct transmission from some of the sites to the Meteosat satellite: eight 3-hour average values of six data: irradiance (G), pv current (JA), power to Dc users (ELDC), time of users connection (TAV) and the two instantaneous values of the ambient temperature (TA) and of the battery tension (UDC).Besides these eight channels, seven other channels would be available to transmit alarms (e.g. low battery) at any time, but his expensive satellite connection is only used for certain sites, were rapid intervention is necessary in case of failure. The modular transmitters (EnerSat 1) for the satellite connection are developed in the frame of this project. The data from Meteosat are received by a receiver station in Perpignan.Power of subsystems : between 160 and 1460 WpTotal power : 29.1 kWpBackup : partially: DieselNumber of modules : about 476Module description : PHOTOWATT BPX 47500 (in France) and SIEMENS/ISOFOTON type M75L (in Spain).Connection : 2 (or 4) in seriesSupport : on racks or roofsMax power tracker : noneCharge controller : Solelec CS50 (in France), ATERSA, Type RSC115 TD and 130 TD (in Spain)Battery : FULMEN, TUDOR, OLDHAM and othersBatt.
