Objectif Demonstration of the possibility to supply small remote communities with electricity by PV generators. Adaption to load demand using 3 inverters. Integration of the system into the rural environment. The pre-assembly of the electrical equipment in transportable cabins proved to be a very good solution, to be repeated in similar installations. The inauguration took place on October 18th, 1990. From this moment onward the system functioned without any trouble and with high availability (above 99%; no repairs; little maintenance); only the monitoring system had some non-availability times. The objective of checking the functioning of pv systems in isolated conditions and getting experience and technical data for such systems was fully attained. The batteries need some control; as there is no periodic stabilisation charge their lifetime is estimated to be only five years. The electricity consumption by the users is smaller (about 14 kWh/d) than expected (30 kWh/d).The high blind current ratio of the loads caused the efficiency of the inverters to be rather low (41%).The following energy costs are estimated :Photovoltaic system : 5.6 ECU/kWhPhotovoltaicsystem (replication) 4.9 ECU/kWhAverage grid connection (10 km) : 5.0 ECU/kWhPower supply for a small remote village (of 12 houses) in the mountains, near Murcia. Central pv array with battery storage for 5 days and about 500 m power lines to the houses. One important aspect of this project was the factory pre-assembly and checking of the electric equipment in transportable cabins.Nr.subsystems : 1Power subsys. : 11.25 kWpTotal power : 11.25 kWpBackup : noneNr. of modules : 250Module descrip. : BP 345, polycristalline, square cells, 36 cells per module, 16.2V (12V), 2.7 A, nominal power 45 Wp, 5.2 kg, 956x431x38.5 mm.Tempered glass, EVA encapsulant, polyester/Tedlar back.Connection : 25 parallel chains of 10 modules each.(120 V).Support : On special, wind resistant rack; initial tilt: 55 deg.Max.pwr.trcker : noneChrg.controler : Selection of the charge currents (in 5 steps of 20 A) depending on batterycharge state.Battery : 180 lead-acid cells, type 20 EAN 100 cells in series, 3 parallel chains.(TUDOR).Capacity : Batt.
