Objective Design and manufacture of a 10 kw grid-connected wind turbine for energy supply to a fish farm in Ayxmonte, in the province of Huelva in Spain. The energy will be used for heating purposes in order to increase the artificial production of shrimps. The innovation is on the newly designed brushless 10 kW permanent magnet generator directly coupled to the flexible rotorblades. The LMW 10/7 wind turbine uses a new permanent magnet brushless generator with rated power of 10 kW and 7 m diameter. The wind turbine uses modern airfoils with high CL/CD ratio and the rotor is directly coupled to the generator. The blades are made by glassfibre reinforced epoxy using the extraction method of fabrication. The wind turbine has passive yawing through a tail vane and power and speed limit is effectuated via an AUTOFURL protection system. The wind turbine can be erected without crane to make it useful for isolated areas. The generated energy will supply a Spanish fish farm for heating the surrogate mother of shrimp eggs. During the demonstration phase it will be possible to verify whether the wind turbine is as efficient and as maintenance free as expected.
