Objetivo The aim of the project is to set an apparatus allowing an accurate stop of the drill string at a predetermined position without waste of time and with full safety precautions.) The system applied to drawworks control works :- with a 1,5 cm stopping accuracy for long travels- and with a 5 cm accuracy for short travels (less than 2 m)It controls maximum trip in and out speeds with a 10 % accuracy.2) The system used for suspended weight control allows to drill in automatic mode.3) The computer has been completed by a sequential automatic mode which controls other tools used in tripping (slips, iron roughneck, elevators, pipe handling system)This has allowed to achieve tripping in full automatic mode with computation of intermediate stopping points and starting up of suitable tools.For the moment, the cycle duration is about 3 mn with a trip in speed limited to 2 m/s.Comparatively to the cost of the system, the use of it could be envisaged only when the control of accuracy stop is needed to integrate powerized tools (such as pipe handling system) which are not available at a field proof level.The commercialization of the system is pending.The overall development involves :- a sensor, which detects rotation or displacement of an element of the cinematic chain;- a sensor detects tool joints passage to permit correction of divergence between actual and calculated position;- a tension load sensor gives a signal proportional to the suspended loac.Finally a control unit acquires and treats the data and allows displaying of the information. The project has been carried out with the following phases :1- completion of a prototype2- industrial preparation and preliminary simulation3- comprehensive operational tests.
