PV EQUIPMENT FOR 12 LODGINGS AND HUTS IN THE FRENCH ALPS

Obiettivo

To demonstrate the reliability of small pv generators used to electricity 13 lodgings and huts located on the hiking route known as the "Great Crossing of the Alps", stretching from Lake Leman (Geneva) to Nice. The altitude varies from 1500 to 3000 m.
The operating results are very satisfactory. The overall monthly average yields vary between 0.5 and 3.9 kWh/kWp per day, depending on the consumption of the users.
13 Mountain refuges in the Alps have been selected for pv electrification in 12 V dc. The pv energy serves to power lighting, radios, radio-telephones, television, refrigerators and some domestic equipment. The houses, classified into three types, have been fitted with seven (280 Wp), twelve (480 Wp) or fifteen (600 Wp) PHOTOWATT polycristalline modules of the type PWP402 (40 Wp). Total installed power : 5400 Wp.
The PHOTOWATT charge regulators are of the type PW R10C12. The lead/acid batteries of FULMEN, have 8.8 15.1 and 18.9 kWh of storage capacity.
The PV modules are mounted on the roofs or on the facades, if possible with variable tilt angles. Snow protection is provided. The pv systems costs were 26.6 ECU/kWp, of which about 13.5 ECU/kWp just for the costly installation in the mountains. They are approximately as high as the cost for a comparable Diesel generator. However pv power does not cause environmental pollution, needs almost no maintenance and is very reliable. Gridconnection is not feasible for these refuges. The systems have Schlumberger Watt-hour meters.
