TOTAL ENERGY PLANT OPERATING WITH A VAPOR THERMAL COMPRESSION CHILLER

Objective

To utilize recovered heat from a total energy plant of 360 kW shaft power, for space heating and cooling in a block of buildings, with a conditioned volume of 70,000 m3, through the use of a vapor thermal compression (VTC) chiller. In this way, the overall utilization factor of the primary energy is increased and the payback period of the installation is decreased.

The project consists of a 400 KVA C.H.P. plant using diesel engine and producing yearly 850 MWh of electricity and 690 MWh of heat. Useful energy from the jacket water and the exhaust gases is provided during the winter time in the form of hot water for a 70,000 m3 educational building heating. During summer, the produced heat from exhaust gas, is used in the generator of a 7 VTC chiller. The VTC chiller uses a jet-compressor, where the motive power for the compression of the refrigerant after evaporation, is provided by a high pressure steam of fluid from the generator through a nozzle. Average efficiency of the plant: 0,54. Innovation : CHP plant with a VTC chiller.
