INTENSIVE FISH FARMING (SILURUS GLANIS) IN HOT GEOTHERMAL WATER

Objetivo

Intensive fish farming in hot water, is generally not profitable because of the cost of the water heating.
This cost can account from 30 to 50% of the working expenses.
This situation limits the expansion and the development of intensive farming.
We have chosen a fish with a very high growth rate when raised in warm water in order to target industrial markets (needing important and regular volumes), we checked the fish market, the biological and industrial feasibility of the project. But the only way to be profitable is to use geothermal water because of its low cost.
A successful continuous process for production of fish using geothermal water has been established. Further application to other suitable sites, where geothermal water is available, is foreseen in the next ten years time.
Restoration of a geothermal well in order to supply in warm water an intensive fish farming. Aim : 160 m3/hour, 25 deg. C, 2000 fish tons/year.
Possibility, in 2 or 3 years, to start an agro-industrial plant destined to transform fish (fish filets, ready to eat meals).
