Objective Aims of project: To use ergonomic analysis to better understand the factors influencing the safety and efficiency of work in shafts and, where possible to suggest means of improvement. Aims of the research: As there are, a priori, a number of common elements between the safety of bunker operations and those undertaken in shafts, the aims are to use the ergonomic approach developed in the previous study of bunker safety (ECSC Project no. 7247/12/049) in order to identify ergonomic improvements in the design, training, methods of operation etc. which could be considered to improve the safety/efficiency of shaft operations.
