Obiettivo The principle aim of the research is to use the Risk Perception Audit approach to study materials handling in coal-mines and to use the results to guide the development of training material intended to improve the perception amongst mineworkers of the risk associated with materials handling and, through this, to reduce the incidence of accidents and injuries. Aims of the research: To study the perception of the risks of injury associated with their possible actions amongst groups of mineworkers involved in two widely differing aspects of the haulage and transportation of supplies underground. These two aspects, manual handling and the transport of heavy or awkward loads, were selected in consultation with British Coal's Training Department. It was anticipated that the outcome of the research would result in information or material which could be used to enhance the training of mineworkers in these two topics.
