Objetivo Aim of project: The aim is to improve communication via intercom systems underground. In carrying out the work, ergonomic aspects of an improved communication system for giving and receiving instructions, information and signals underground are to be taken into account. The output volume, for example, should automatically adjust to a prescribed level. Communication between underground workers, even in very high noise levels, should thereby be improved to such an extent that information and signals are transmitted with the required volume and clarity. This should eliminate or at least reduce the mental and physical strain on workers. The new generation of intercom systems to be developed under this research and development project will result in improved communication underground, both in terms of acoustics and of ergonomics. A specification containing technical requirements for manufacturers was produced by a specially constituted working party. To provide manufacturers with the requirements for drawing up tenders, DMT (Deutsche Montan Technologie) has been given the task of carrying out measurements on existing intercom systems.
