NEW IN VITRO APPROACHES FOR FISH PROTECTION IN AQUACULTURE : APPLICATION OF CELL AND TISSUE CULTURES FOR PATHOGEN DETECTION AND FOR DEVELOPMENT OF VACCINES

Objective

The project will focus on the use of cell and tissue culture to support a multidisciplinary study of the pathogenic mechanisms of intracellular fish pathogens, including the relationship between pollutants and fish protection. The proposal is centred on rainbow trout and on pathogens Renibacterium salmoninarum, and the VHS virus. The technical objectives of the project are:
1) The development of cell and tissue cultures from the skin, gills, gut and lymphoid organs (kidney and spleen) of trout;
2) The generation of in vitro acute and chronic infections of the cell and tissue cultures.
