Pragmatic and epistemic role of factually erroneous cognitions and thoughts

Objective

"The project will investigate pragmatic and epistemic benefits of delusional beliefs, distorted memories and confabulatory explanations in the context of normal and abnormal cognition. The notion of ""epistemic innocence"" will be developed to capture an unexplored phenomenon, the existence of cognitions whose overall epistemic benefits, in terms of enabling the acquisition or preservation of knowledge, outweigh their epistemic faults."
