A System for Embodied Relational Experiences

Objective

"Immersive virtual reality has been found to be useful for the simulation of conflictual social situations, where classical results from social psychology may be reproduced. The purpose of this project is to produce a consumer level version of the virtual reality system developed in the ERC Advanced Grant TRAVERSE, and to show how this may be applied in applications depicting various types of conflict situation. The project will include development of the consumer level system, porting of existing applications to this system, and the carrying out of experiments to test both the technical viability of the system and its impact on the psychological state of participants. The project will assess business opportunities around these ideas, and produce a business plan for their commercial exploitation. The project would offer three types of benefit (i) a social benefit in its applicability to significant social problems (ii) an economic benefit in potentially reducing the costs of various forms of counselling and (iii) a commercial benefit leading to exploitation of the system and underlying ideas in several domains of application."
