Cel The overall research objective of the proposed project is to investigate to what extent the language we speak influence our ability to act in the world. Building on the theoretical and methodological foundations of disciplines such as Conversation Analysis, Linguistic Anthropology and Interactional Linguistic, and taking as its point of departure the idea that language is a resource for accomplishing social action, the project will conduct an empirically based study to determine the range of linguistic resources that can be employed for accomplishing one domain of action, within one specific language. Based on a corpus of audio- and video-recorded, naturally occurring interactions in Danish, the project will investigate how speakers of Danish indicate or convey to others that they have undergone a change of state. Having identified the different resources that can be employed for this action, the project will then determine in what other contexts of use or domains of action the same resources are employed and how. The empirical findings will then be compared to investigate the way in which different linguistic items are used to indicate distinct types of change of state, can be linked back to how these linguistic items are otherwise used, in other domains of action. The project will be conducted by an experienced researcher and at an esteemed research institution, with the training objectives being that of recalibrating the researcher's career and helping her develop a more defined and independent research profile.
