DISTANCE/OPEN LEARNING/TRAINING IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Objective

To provide post-graduate level training in environmental protection using an open/distance learning format. The target group are Science and Engineering graduates and technologists in industry and State Bodies who have or wish to have environmental responsibilities. The project is run jointly by Sligo R.T.C. and the Government Body, EOLAS, (National Science & Technology Agency).

MAIN DOMAIN OF INNOVATION:

Innovative training needs analysis with a special focus on core/key qualifications. Provides postgraduate training and qualifications (Single Subject Certificate leading to Graduate Diploma continuing to Master in Science) in Environmental Protection for engineers/scientists.

TARGETGROUP(S):

People at work. Unqualified or less qualified. People who have or wish to have enviromental responsibilities but do not have relevant formal training or qualifications.

OPERATING CONTEXT:

Raising qualifications. Industrial restructuring. To promote competency in enviromental management with reference to pollution control in industry.

TECHNOLOGY:

Environmental related technologies. Information and communication technologies. The use of computer based training, videos and computer simulations are being developed.

INVOLVEMENT WITH ENTERPRISES:

Training institute-enterprise cooperation. Training consortia. Local Authorities and County Councils are members of course advisory committee.

INVOLVEMENT OF SOCIAL PARTNERS:

EOLAS, Government bodies and County Councils.

RESULTS:

First course in environmental protection completed.Results based on feedback questionnaires are available.
