Objective
Study of the effect of environmental and genetic factors on the chemical synthesis of the Sunflower seed and development of new methods for chemical determination.
More efficient methods and techniques have been developed for rapid evaluation of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) genetic material for the creations of cultivars or hybrids which combine disease resistance, high nutritional quality and good yield. It was found that the oil content and the protein content were affected more by environmental factors than by the variety cultivated. Oil content was higher in fertile fields and the protein content less as the increase in the content of oil decreases the protein content. Free fatty acid content also differed more among regions than among genotypes.
New methods for moisture determination (use of flour instead of whole seed) and oil content determination (Russian Method and use of Ostric Matijesevic Turkolov apparatus) may be used for the sunflower.
The AOCS Methods for Crude Oil Protein Moisture content, Free Fatty adids, Refraction index Iodine number Resistance to healing and Wax content were applied. New technics on moisture and oil content were tested.
