Reduction of arduous work in steep seam workings

Objective

The project will attempt to identify the sources of arduous work in a new method of working steep seams which are amenable to corrective ergonomics measures including:

- technical features (working + machine),
- characteristics of the operators (physical and psycho-physiological),
- detailed working methods (theoretical and practical),
- hazards involved in the operation (breakdowns, incidents, etc.),
- communication, posture,
- environmental factors (noise, dust, lighting, etc.),
- workload.

Ways and Means to Achieve the Work

The three classic methods of ergonomic work analysis will be applied: observation, interview, measurement.

- Observations

These will enable the multidisciplinary team to establish precisely the working stages and their constituent elements.

The accuracy of these observations will determine whether the difficulties involved in the task under scrutiny are correctly perceived and hence whether the action to be taken is soundly based.

- Interviews

Carried out anonymously, in groups and without management pressure, these are not only an essential means of "confirming" the aspects observed but are also a source of more precised information on the tasks involved and give an insider's view of the operations.

- Measurements

There will concentrate on specific working conditions (dust and noise levels, climate, etc.) and will provide a basis for assessing the physical load by recording heart rate (covering whole shifts and several operators).

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
