Objective
The objective will be to build upon the results of ECSC projects numbers 7249/14/063 (ARBED Experts System) and 7249/11/002 (Process Visualisation) in order to develop, with computer assistance, a process simulation model for the finishing train control station on the hot-rolled wide strip line in order to optimise interaction between man and technology.
There will be three main goals:
- to verify the ergonomic design of masks and keyboards using test persons;
- to use the simulation control station for new control operators to determine the reliability of the man/machine system with reference to man;
- to simulate crash situations for control operators, so as to reduce the influence of stress factors on cognitive performance to a minimum.
Ways and Means to Achieve the Work
The individual stages in the work will be as follows:
1. Selection of hardware
2. Design of screen masks
e.g. - selection of presentation form
- selection of colour distribution
- scaling of picture elements
- position of the animation screen
3. Integration of mask into the simulation system
4. Integration of on-line data recording
5. Automatic precessing of on-line parameter data recorded on location (adaptation of data to simulator)
6. "Editing" of relevant time periods (time windows) with EDP support, if appropriate with integration of pseudo-values produced with intelligent random generators.
7. Simulation with personnel
- fixed sequence (e.g. for trial statistics)
- arranged sequence for training purposes, e.g. introduction of specific incidents into the process by the control operator.
8. Trial evaluation and documentation
- information on series of trials (ergonomics proposal)
- information on series of trials (following amendment of proposal) will be repeated in several stages (optimisation)
9. Preparation of an analysis
- description of hardware and software
- modular description of functions
- user example

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
