Private Identity as a Service

Project description

Open objective for innovation

Methods of identification and authentication are used to confirm the Identity of a person in order to protect physical and digital information. Biometrics identifiers (distinctive and measureable characteristics to describe individuals) have been widely used in different authentication systems, however the wider adoption of biometrics in mobile services for enhancing the identification and authentication processes has not been successfully adpoted because of different problems:• Security preservation of biometric data in the authentication process (need to enrol all the users for each application)• Lack of user control and privacy issues for an efficient identity management between different applications and domains• Biometric algorithms must be tailored because of the sensors specificities in mobile devices, and there are no real large scale pilots to analyse this impact.• Uncertainty on how the usability of the biometric sensors affect the performance metrics of the algorithms• Difficulty to integrate biometric processes into mobile services and application development environments.PIDaaS will capitalize and integrate existing biometric technology and platforms, (such as Incita's id4me biometric mobile authentication service, BTPS (IGD solution for privacy), and both identity management platforms owned by BDIGITAL and CSI, thus creating and deploying a secure privacy-preserving authentication service using TPS-based biometrics technology for mobile applications in different scenarios.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
