A breakthrough in biocide technology that combines the potency of two different antimicrobials to obtain unparalleled efficacy.

Objective

SymbiCoat is a new surface-bonded biocide that combines the potency of two different types of antimicrobials. SymbiCoat excels in kill kinetics, performance duration and low toxicity and does not induce antimicrobial resistance. SymbiCoat also allows rapid and easy recharge of the antimicrobial function, saving time and costs as a result that no competing biocide technology could provide. SymbiCoat is able to bring the advantages of the biocide coating technologies to previously inaccessible industries, like the food industry. In fact, thanks to its negligible toxicity and high efficacy, SymbiCoat can be applied to any sensible surface, including food-contact surfaces in the food processing equipment. Thus, SymbiCoat has the potential to radically enhance the contamination control in the food industry, helping prevent the spread of resistant bacteria and foodborne diseases.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
