Objective This project will bring together European steel-makers, offshore fabricators and end users to prepare a recommendation for acceptance criteria of high strength steel weldments, taking into account that a new class of high strength steels is entering the market, and that the weakest factor in the application of these superior steels is the properties of the weldments. It is intended to specify the necessary fracture mechanics based acceptance criteria for the base materials and their weldments, including quantitative requirements for the treatment of residual stresses, weld metal and HAZ mechanical properties and the fracture toughness of the different zones of the weldment. It has been agreed that Norwegian partners will cooperate in this project.
