Objectif

The improvement of the environment of the inner city, by:
- sparing the environment
- a shift from individual to collective means of transportation
- reinforcement of the regional economy

City Distribution Centre
Ideas and approach: It is intended to build a distribution centre on the outskirts of the city, where loads are transferred from lorries to small, ecologically sound (electrical, for instance) delivery vans. About 70% of good carriage lends itself to this means of supplying the inner city. A daily reduction of 19000 (5000 instead of 24000) lorry kilometres could be realized. The 3000 loads which are now directly delivered to the customer by 1500 lorries will, in future, be trans-shipped in the City Distribution Centre and delivered from there with the help of 40 smaller delivery vans. Each of these vans will make three trips a day, visiting 25 customers per trip. Because of this the environmental pollution (smell, noise) on the supply routes will be greatly reduced and the accessibility of the inner city increased. The quality of the environment in the pedestrian precincts especially will greatly improve. The subsidy application is aimed at facilitary matters, such as logistic equipment, computer hard- and software and the use of ecologically sound (clean, quiet) instead of conventional vehicles.

Network of Shuttle Buses and Transfer Points
Idea and Approach: A system whereby visitors to the inner city park their cars on the outskirts of the city and are transported from there to the inner city by (highly frequent) shuttle buses. This measure is expected to bring about an important reduction of car kilometres, especially during peak shopping hours on thursday evenings and saturdays. New opportunities will be created for the lay-out of public areas in and near the central shopping centre.
Costs: the subsidy application is aimed at the acquisition of a dynamic travellers information system and the conversion of conventional buses into ecologically sound ones.
