Objetivo Decision support system for air quality monitoring and planning for provinces of Brescia and Cremona.The MONIQA project is aimed at producing a Decision Support Systems (DDS) designed to support and update monitoring network supervision systems in the Brescia and Cremona provinces according to Italian Law DM 20.5.91. Well tested simulation models together with the Data Base Management System technology will supply monitoring network managers with instruments permitting the best possible interpretation of atmospheric pollution phenomena such as the extrapolation of data collected in a limited number of points over the entire territory (according to air quality standards) or the simulation of effects of possible scenario interventions in the air quality planning process. A quality step-up of the MONIQA Project consists in the strengthening of meteorological instruments installed in the Brescia and Cremona networks with the introduction of triaxial anemometers (gill propeller type) which in the future could systematically substitute those commonly used to date but do not permit measuring of atmospheric turbulence. Obtaining atmospheric turbulence parameters (friction velocity, sensible turbulent heat flux, Monin-Obukhov length, etc) will permit the use of new generation models (hybrid models).
