Objective Work out and publish the Red Data Book of Latvia in five volumes: I - fungi and lichen (1994), II - insects (1995), III - fish, reptiles, and amphibians (1995), IV - birds and animals (1996), V - vascular plants and mosses (1997). Regulations for protection of rare and endangered species in Latvia are developed and adopted.Scientists of the Institute of Biology of Latvian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with scientists from other establishments will analyze the existing material on Latvian flora and fauna. The whole territory of Latvia will be inspected closely to find out separate species of rare and endangered plants and animals. According to Rio de Janeiro convention, Conservation of species diversity, and the international regulations on Red Data Books the RDB of Latvia will be developed. It will present descriptions of rare and endangered species, their distribution (in maps) and coloured pictures as well as indications for their protection).
