Local authorities' co-operation with enterprises concerning cleaner technology

Objectif

- To strengthen the co-operation between local authorities in the EU member states in order to develop more comprehensive methods of environmental evaluation with a view to integrating these in the local administration.
- To develop and test some of the methods of environmental management available for local authorities in co-operation with enterprises with a view to introducing cleaner technology.

The project aims at stimulating the co-operation between the local environmental authorities in the EU member states with a view to exchanging knowledge and experience on:
- introduction of cleaner technology in SME's,
- co-operation relations between local authorities and enterprises.

This will take place by contacts and co-operation between the associations of local authorities in Greece, United Kingdom and Denmark as well as a number of selected local authorities and enterprises in these countries.

In the upstart- and planning phase, involving all participating partners, it is important to attain a common understanding for the desired result of the project, knowledge of EU-strategies, operational tools and their possibilities and limitations in the work of the authorities, selection of types of enterprises and of measures on the basis of local needs.

The mainphase of the project will be the implementation of local co-operation projects in the selected local areas. In this phase the local authorities in co-operation with the local enterprises develop and provide the measures that the local authorities have disposal of, in preparation for preventive environmental arrangements in the enterprises.

The presentation of the project will take place by means of reports and establishment of environmental fora and networks for authorities and enterprises. the reports will comprise; Authority reports directed towards other local authorities; Enterprise reports for internal use in the enterprises; EU-reports summarizing the project experience regarding the role of local authorities in connection with implementation of cleaner technology in enterprises.
