NEW COST EFFECTIVE WELL CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

Obiettivo

The aim of SIMPLER Project is to demonstrate an innovative approach to drilling operations which results in significant improvements in cost reduction, Occupational Health, safety, and protection of environment. This approach is used for both land and offshore applications, although initial demonstration has been on land.
The rig organisation is "Re-engineered", by integrating rig activities currently done independently, leading to overall optimisation of personnel resources. Innovative and integrated equipment/systems are introduced to support this new organisation in a cost effective manner.
SIMPLER Project is a successful result of Schlumberger commitment to perform its services in a safe, healthy, environmental friendly, and cost effective manner. Following the start of operations, the Performance comparisons between Simpler and other conventional operations has been conducted (as applicable) during the monitoring phase; to extract the maximum benefit from the project.
Accomplishments are presented in the following areas :
A. Integration of activities:
Many services have been considered in this integration: mud and cement services, mud logging services, directional drilling, measurement while drilling, logging while drilling. For that, Simpler personnel have been specially cross-trained, forming a multi-skilled crew, that is capable to perform specific re-defined job tasks.
B. Rig Loads Packaging : Simpler is a concept to design a "fit for purpose" rig. Enhanced rig mobility, with reduced need for lifting and transport equipment, and reduced rig move time, are someof Simpler features, taking place within the demonstration project.
C. Environmental Aspects : "Zero discharge Rig" is a major environmental objective of Simpler. This objective is accomplished through Drilling Waste Management, leading to "dry location" concept with elimination of waste pits. Containment of drilling waste must be optimised to minimise the number of loads required for cuttings transportation to the disposal site. This implies optimum sizing of waste bins and tanks taking into consideration rate of penetration, efficiency of cuttings and waste treatment equipment, etc. Dry location methodology includes improvements in water sources, water system layout, waste fluid channeling to a collection point, and inclusion of waste fluid collecting tanks and recycling unit. Reduction of foot print, and reduction of noise levels, associated with implementation of noise monitoring system, form the other environmental objectives of Simpler project.
D. Mechanisation of labour intensive tasks: like pipe handling, and mud mixing.
E. Cost effective technology, like Rig Area Network, by which, real time data are acquired displayed to all key personnel on the rig, thus leading to enhanced efficiency and better understanding.
F. Ergonomically designed Driller's Control Room.
G. Gabon provides an ideal opportunity because of simultaneous operations by conventional rigs in same field.
Simpler project aims to accomplish the following points :
* Reduced well cost.
* Improved Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Performance.
* Enhanced Rig mobility.
* Reduced logistics requirement.
For that, the following areas are considered :
A. Integration of activities: thus moving from a combination of specialized companies, providing a self contained service, with its own personnel and equipment, and with limited objectives and overall synergy, to a "Rig Team" concept, where the synergy between all activities is actively pursued and materializes in a multi-skilled integrated team with an "overall picture" oriented perspective.
B. Rig Loads Packaging.
C. Environmental Aspects.
D. Mechanisation of labour intensive tasks.
E. Implementation of Cost effective technologies.
F. Design of Driller's Control Room.
