Cel The development of the hostile gas condensate fields, high temperature (200 deg. C) and high pressure (l00 mpa) imposes on the Oil Companies to develop innovative equipment, as traditional technologies have often reached their limits. One of the most important elements of the well architecture is the production packer which makes the downhole casing-to-tubing mechanical/pressure tight bond. A fully metal to metal seal packer will be demonstrated, derived from the new technologies recently designed for well heads.Extra R & D efforts are necessary to solve unexpected technical difficulties.The project will last for 18 months, and will include the following phases:I) conception and fabrication of a full size sub-assembly to test its behaviour (setting, integrity and retrieval) under differential pressure, axial force and temperature.2) design and fabrication of a production packer prototype (and associated tools) in appliance with a real technical specification.3) qualification of the prototype in a HP/HT test cell.The main technical specifications are:- setting in a 7" casing- service pressure 140 MPa (maximal differential pressure)- maximal axial load (compression - 2,68 MN)- service temperature 200 deg. C- connection with tubing 4"- materials compatible with oil base mud, water base mud, sour gas, and formation water.Operation of the packer in a casing, or in a specially drifted tube:- hydraulically, by pressurizing the tubing.- as an option, with an hydraulic setting tool and drill string.The testing programme of the prototype will include:- circulation with completion fluid, packer not anchored, to evaluate friction losses around the packer, to define the acceptable speed for tripping, the flow rates to displace the fluids during the completion.- measurement of the friction of the packer when tripping inside a casing with 60 deg. C inclination.
