DIVERLESS FLOWLINE TIE-IN SYSTEM

Ziel

To provide the offshore industry with a safe reliable and cost effective system for fully diverless tie-ins of flowlines in deep waters.
The system will allow connections of lines (rigid or flexible) for lines between 6" and 12" diameter. It is built under the form of a large toolskid and deployed by a Work-type R.O.V. (Remotely Operated Vehicle).
This will meet the increasing demand for large numbers of small diameter tie-ins on offshore field developments with Subsea Production Systems in water depths beyond divers' reach.
The prototype system has been demonstrated with onshore and offshore tests. It has connected 8" and 10" diameter bolted pipeline flangues by remote control. The technology is now being commercialised by the partners in the project and has been proposed for offshore tie-ins during 1998. (The MATIS system received the Pipeline industry Guild).
The project includes the fabrication and testing of equipment to perform the following tasks:
- preparation of the subsea connection (metrology, caps removal, ...)
- alignment and adjustment of the two ends to be connected,
- installation of a mechanical connector, or installation and tightening of bolts on flanges.
All operations will be remotely controlled from the surface support via an umbilical. This will permit to carry out works in water depths which cannot be reached by divers. Due consideration will be given to operation in low visibility. At more moderate water depths, the performance of the equipment in terms of speed will be comparable to or better than that achievable using divers with conventional equipment.
