ADVANCED ELECTRONIC ENERGY CONSUMER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR RENOVATED HOUSING BLOCK WITH DISTRICT HEATING SUPPLY

Obiettivo

The aim of this project is to demonstrate how to obtain big energy savings and capacity savings in an existing old urban housing block, which is being renovated and having installed district heating by utilization of an advanced electronic energy consumer management system.
This aim will first of all be achieved through change of consumer habbits and behaviour and through further cooling of return string of the district heating system. The information technology gives new opportunities for giving the consumers possibilities for energy and capacity savings through: 1) individual meters for consumption of heat, electricity, water and gas 2) differentiated price setting according to true costs 3) active information through a display placed at each consumer 4) central switching off of selected appliances.

In this project will be utilized an advanced electronic consumer management system, the Flextar system, in order to reduce the energy consumption and capacity demand, first of all through changes of consumer behaviour. Traditionally there is a tendency of investments in hardware solutions for energy savings. In this projects the idea is to focus on software solutions including : differentiated prices etc.
The price mechanism of the project with dynamic time differentiated energy prices, creates a motivation for consumers to save energy and to save capacity by moving the energy consumption away from peak-hours.
The individual meters (heat, electricity, gas, water) makes it possible to save costs for energy consumption.
The active information of consumers through displays placed in each apartment makes consumers aware of their energy consumption and the potentials for saving through change of energy behaviour.
In the project is focused on temperature reduction of hot water for heating through utilization of thermostates.Through these consumer management elements, the costs for energy will substantially reduced.
The project is located in the Municipality of Frederiksberg in the Greater Copenhagen area in a quarter, which at the moment is being renovated.
The demonstration project covers 227 flats in a block, which is going to be renewed in 1994, and where the planning for urban renewal has
just started. All apartments of the block are included in this project, because it is not acceptable for the inhabitants of the block to have
different economic and practical conditions, deriving from some being into this project, others not. The block will also be used as an organizational unit for educational and informational activities.
The buildings of the demonstration block are from 1880-1900, 4-5 storey brick buildings, without district heating. The buildings need to be renovated with new installation.
