CANAL HYDROELECTRIC PLANT SITUATED BELOW THE FLOW OF WATER WITH INNOVATIVE KAPLAN COMPACT BEVEL WHEEL TUBULAR TURBINE

Ziel

New construction of the hydroelectric facility Bifig in a residential area with an innovative concept which is unique in its size of construction. In this, the existing noise intensive water drop is dammed and used for energy production by positioning a hydroelectric facility below the flow of water. The sound emissions are considerable reduced or avoided. The proposed technology is supposed to ensure the optimal, economical and non-polluting production of 1.06 GWh.

The turbine facility is in a position below the flow of water consists of a waterproof building with a wicket on top. The by-pass canal system is arranged on the side for times of maintenance of the turbine facility and built in a cover fashion to facilitate noiseless diversion of the water. A double regulated Kaplan tubular turbine in compact construction, which optimally uses the offered energy potential, has been installed in the turbine house.
Since the facility is erected in a residential area measures for noise reduction are of decisive importance. Therefore, it has been determined to produce important turbine parts like housing and diffusor of noise muffling cast iron. In order to protect the supply water of contaminations the guide blade bearings are lubricant-free. The use of special materials prolong the useful life of turbine parts, e.g. the shaft seal. New shaping at the turbine inflow housing increase the effectivity and performance and, therefore, the output capacity of the facility.
The debris of the supply water is caught by the turbine intake screen, it is transported to the wicket by a screen cleaning machine and then disposed of.
The turbine facility is centrally controlled in which the individual parts of equipment (screen cleaning machine, wicket control, by-pass control) are connected to each other. Thus an optimal low maintenance and labour cost operation of the facility is guaranteed. Remote transmission of the data is possible.
INNOVATIVE PARTS OF THE PROJECT
- Totally submerged powerhouse
- Application of specially designed turbine housing and diffuser for reduction of sound emissions (10-20 dB)
- Improved inlet facility for the turbine in order to optimise energy production
- Use of special shaft seal and lubricant-free guide bearings to increase life time and minimise environmental negative impact - Remote control for safe operation.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PLANT
