Impact of additives and waste streams constituents on the immobilisation potential of cementitious barriers

Obiettivo



TO SUPPORT AND ENRICH THE PROJECT AT ABERDEEN AND ASSIST IN TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER, ESPECIALLY IN THE TRAINING 0F YOUNG SCIENTISTS, A COMPLEMENTARY PROGRAMME OF RESEARCH IS PROPOSED AT VESZPREM. THIS HAS THREE SCIENTIFIC ASPECTS.
1. IMPROVED BACKFILL SYSTEMS WILL BE DEVELOPED, BASED 0N SODIUM SILICATE - CLAY - CEMENT FORMULATIONS. THESE WILL BE TAILORED TO DEVELOP ZEOLITIC PHASES. THE PERFORMANCE OF OPTIMISED FORMULATIONS WILL BE MEASURED USING Cs, Sr AND I. CRACKING IS NOT A PROBLEM IN THESE INTRINSICALLY SOFT MATERIALS.
2. A FOCUSSED LITERATURE SURVEY WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO DERIVE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE BEHAVIOUR AND MIGRATION IN ALKALINE MEDIA OF TYPICAL WASTE ELEMENTS.
3. THIS INFORMATION, AS WELL AS DATA OBTAINED IN EC PROGRAMMES, WILL BE USED TO SYNTHESISE AND DETERMINE THE SOLUBILITIES OF SOLID PHASES. THESE DATA WILL BE USED TO IMPROVE THE THERMODYNAMIC DATA BASE BY INTEGRATION WITH COMPUTER-BASED MODELS.
