Radiation-induced genetic effects in mammals and the estimation of genetic risks in man: a concerted approach using theoretical, epidemiological, cytogenetic, biochemical and molecular methods

Objetivo

Short description of the "additional" proposal
This additional proposal aims at providing both a baseline and a framework for the assessment of biological risks of radiation exposures of human populations manifest as cancers and of
diseases of old age (i.e. in the 65+ age group) many of which have a genetic component in their aetiology. Its objectives are: (i) compilation, analysis and synthesis of Hungarian data on prevalences of cancers and of diseases of old age; (ii)
estimation of detriment associated with these diseases in terms of years of life lost and impaired and (iii) comparison of the estimates derived from these studies with those from our and other earlier investigations on Mendelian diseases, chromosomal abnormalities, congenital abnormalities, selected multifactorial diseases of predominantly adult onset, mental retardation and blindness and deafness.
